We’ll start by talking the title itself as Super Mario Maker 2 doesn’t exactly have a title as bold as Mario. Instead, it’s more of an extension of the game mechanics than a new, new franchise.
The core gameplay is still there but it’s a completely different take on it with a ton of possibilities to get creative with. One of them is in the form of the Toads. While these are the main ones that do the heavy lifting of the game, the game also features hundreds of new Toads. Every single Toad has its own unique abilities but they don’t all need to be used to your full advantage to unlock new levels. They just need to be able to help unlock things. The Toads are one way of letting players test out the game’s systems. We’ll get to that later.
While the gameplay is identical, the levels are unique in a lot of ways. As I mentioned above, Super Mario Maker 2 makes adding more items extremely easy. If there’s one thing we’ve learned over all of Super Mario Maker’s three variations and the 3D models that are offered online, it’s that there is more to this game than just adding a few new items.
